LMT Onsrud’s 67-220 series progressive chipbreaker tooling is designed to promote chip control and increase tool life in cutting composite materials. The chipbreaker’s geometry with a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutting edge supports a range of feed rates and depth of cut combinations. The PCD grade is designed for composite applications with increased hardness to resist tool wear, lengthen tool life and improve finish.
The tool’s Hi-Low asymmetrical chipbreaker profile is designed to reduce vibration and chatter caused by harmonic imbalance for improved surface finishes, reduced noise levels and limited wear on the tool. The solid carbide body provides support for the cutting edge and improved machining capability. The three-flute design with 3-degree up-shear also promotes efficient chip evacuation, while a staggered cutting-edge pattern generates low cutting forces and reduces the temperature in the cutting area, enabling faster speeds and increased productivity, the company says.
