New Walter Copy Turn System
Precision tool supplier Walter USA has released the W-1011-P/WL25 Copy Turn system, which features a Walter-Lock (WL) positive locking technology that supports the inserts close to the cutting zone. According to the company, this leads to reduced vibrations, high stability and improved tool life in profiling operations.
In the new tool, V or D-style inserts are replaced with triangular cutting inserts. The three-edged inserts allow for a 50 degree undercut angle, suitable for profiling operations. The insert shape enables turning toward and away from the spindle, making use of both cutting edges and increasing the tool life, according to Walter. The chip thinning calculations enable higher feeds, and are well suited for applications where the insert is feeding away from the spindle. The positive-locking Walter Lock (WL) connection prevents the insert from moving in the pocket of the tool holder, contributing to higher indexing accuracy, according to the company. Walter’s precision coolant delivery on the rake and clearance faces is designed to promote maximum tool life and efficient chip evacuation.
The system offers flexibility, because four indexable insert types fit in the same tool: neutral, right-hand, left-hand and full radius inserts. Geometries include MP4 and MM4 geometry with 35 degree cutting angle, and MU6 geometry for full radius indexable inserts. WL25 inserts are available in PVD and CVD grades; for turning steels, stainless steels, cast irons and superalloy workpieces. The W1011 holders are available in square shank sizes of ¾ and 1 inch, 20 × 20 and 25 × 25 mm with plans to extend the range into Capto adaption.
