GF Machining Solutions introduces the Mikron Mill P 800 U Simultaneous Turning (ST) which provides milling and turning in a single machine. Highly efficient, the compact machine provides 31.5" (800 mm) of X-axis travel, an 800-rpm C-axis rotation speed and a maximum table load of 1,763 lbs (800 kg). The gantry-type concept is designed to meet the needs of shops serving the automotive, aerospace, energy and general machining industries. The machine’s small 137" × 118" footprint makes it easy to integrate into existing operations, replacing two machines in the process, the company suggests.

The machine is said to achieve accurate workpiece roundness, high surface quality and a high material removal rate. Being able to fully machine components on a single machine also eliminates transfer-related part runout and errors.

The MILL P 800 U ST is capable of four-axis simultaneous turning and incorporates a 20,000-rpm HSK T63 spindle. Additionally, water-cooled torque motors on the A and C axes ensure accuracy and stability, while speed is enhanced through the axes’ 0.3-sec. clamp time in any position. The gantry design enables full accessibility of the workpiece on the 31.5" × 31.5" table without having to rotate it. This eliminates errors related to table rotation and avoids the need for hand polishing, the company says. The toolchanger for the machine is also located so as to avoid moving the table during tool changes.

Machine and Spindle Protection (MSP) adds security to the machining process by protecting the machine and spindle against crashing during setup and machining. Additionally, the machine is automation-ready and equipped with pallet changers for two, seven, nine or 12 pallets. It can also be easily integrated into existing automation systems, including System 3R automation solutions.
