OKK’s horizontal machining center features a 500-mm pallet to accommodate large workpieces and is intended to provide faster cycle times. The HMC achieves a rapid feed rate of 63 m/min. (2,480 ipm) with acceleration of 1 g in the X, Y and Z axes. It is constructed with a lightweight column featuring a rigid, stepped X-axis rail design, and a high-speed built-in rotary table. A large bearing in the B axis of the rotary table and a multi-clamp pallet system ensure rigidity.
The machining center accommodates a maximum tool length of 550 mm, enabling deep boring operations without rotating the pallet for time savings and improved accuracy. A high-torque 15K Big Plus spindle provides cutting speeds of 15,000 in 1.7 sec. with 50 hp for faster machining of tough materials, such as 1018 steel. The spindle design also improves tool accessibility, and the distance from the spindle nose to the pallet center is 70 mm. The HMC is equipped with a 1,000-psi through-spindle coolant unit featuring a 5-micron bag filter that can be replaced without interrupting the cycle. Virtually all maintenance controls and gages are centrally located near the front of the machine for convenient inspection.
