Methods Machine Tools’ Matsuura LX-160 two-pallet, five-axis VMC features 19.7" × 9.8" × 11.8" (500.38- × 248.92- × 299.72-mm) travels and a 46,000-rpm FANUC control. During simultaneous five-axis machining, the rotation center of the tilting B axis is lowered to a position below the pallet surface to reduce each axis movement. The toolchange system is said to provide 3.5-sec. chip-to-chip time.
 
With high-precision linear motor drives on all five axes, the VMC delivers 3,600-ipm rapids on the X, Y and Z axes, and 100- to 200-rpm rapids on the B and C axes. The system offers a 6.3" × 7.9" (160.01- × 200.66-mm) work envelope in a small footprint, the company says. The pallet work surface measures 4.4" (111.76 mm) and maximum load capacity is 44 lbs (20 kg). The ATC features a drum-type tool magazine driven by a servomotor. A Matsuura Intelligent Meister System (MIMS) monitors the overall production process. The machine is equipped with CAMplete Truepath software and a suite of G-code editing, optimization, analysis and verification tools. A variety of ATC and APC options are available.
 
Three additional L-series models are also available. The LF-160 five-axis and LV-500 three-axis systems both feature a high-precision motor and are designed specifically for precision-machining applications, such as precision molding or optical parts. The LS-160 is available with a Siemens control and features a high-speed motor for  high-speed machining applications, such as impeller machining, dental and medical applications.
