Q-Mark’s diamond stylus, offered in all standard thread sizes and configurations, can be used when measuring hard, abrasive or very soft surfaces. The company claims that the tip will not wear when used with high probing or scanning forces, thereby maintaining precision in measurement.
The styli are available with solid diamond and diamond-coated spheres. The solid diamond spheres are polished to Grade 10 sphericity (less than 250 nm) and are recommended for use with hard or abrasives surfaces. Diamond-coated spheres are recommended for soft alloys such as aluminum. Unlike ruby spheres, diamond spheres do not attract substances (such as aluminum) and retain their form at all times, according to the company.
