Mazak’s Horizontal Center Nexus (HCN) 6000 with a Fanuc Robotics’ robot features a high speed, 50-taper, 50-hp, 10,000-rpm spindle with 388 foot-pounds of torque a FANUC Robotics robot.
Designed as a general-purpose HMC for contract machine shops, the machine has a 500-mm pallet that serves as the foundation for a work size of 39.3" in height and 35.4" in diameter. According to the company, the 111"-wide machine is designed to utilize space efficiently.
Other characteristics include rapid traverse rates on the XYZ axes of 2,362 ipm, with acceleration as high as 0.7 G. A 43-tool magazine with ATC is a standard feature, as is the two-pallet changer, which is driven by a roller-gear cam with no hydraulics or sensors. The pallet will index 90 degrees in 1.9 seconds and change pallets in 9 seconds.
The company says it engineered the machine with ease of maintenance and environmental consideration in mind. As such, standby power requirements have been reduced by 20 percent, and air consumption has been reduced by 36 percent. Sealed grease lubrication in all axes (instead of way lube) can also reduce oil consumption and extend coolant life because of the lack of tramp oils in the system, the company says.
