Source: Open Mind Technologies

Open Mind Technologies’ HyperMill 2025 CAD/CAM Software Suite features highly productive programming and machining strategies to enable accurate, efficient 2.5D, 3D, precision five-axis and mill/turn machining.

The five-axis automatic tool orientation mode in HyperMill 2025 ensures optimized machining to provide efficient and reliable tool paths on the most complex molds and components. The five-axis automatic tool orientation mode algorithm uses a pre-analysis of the entire tool path to calculate machining sequences of simultaneous and indexed tool movements, reducing the number of inputs required for five-axis machining and saving time when programming challenging parts.

The pocket milling algorithm for high-feed cutters in HyperMill 2025 has been redeveloped for 3D-optimized roughing, achieving greater efficiency during roughing as well as better machining control, which is useful when machining large lateral in-feeds and remaining material. Contour and path radii can also be defined, resulting in improved toolpath rounding.

A fast, easy and safe five-axis hole deburring strategy excels at deburring sharp edges on holes and intersecting holes. By using CAM Plan programming assistance and analysis technology to automatically recognize all the holes, the sharp edges in the model are marked for selecting the desired edges. The hole deburring technology automatically calculates tool paths, and supports three-axis and five-axis modes. Also, the software now offers a five-axis deburring strategy for fast and efficient deburring of component edges. Users may choose between three-axis machining and a five-axis option, which enables greater reach to more component edges, automatically generating the required inclinations as well as collision avoidance.

Linking movements via HyperMill Virtual Machining Optimizer have been further optimized for actual stock conditions with new Dynamic Stock technology. Using Dynamic Stock, an updated stock is automatically generated for all machining jobs and accounted for when calculating linking movements.

Fri, 9 May 2025 01:00:00 -0400 Allied Drilling System Enables High Penetration Rates Eastec 2025: The T-A Pro high penetration drilling system offers customers a high performance drilling solution which combines excellent penetration capabilities with versatility across a wide range of sizes.
Source: Allied Machine and Engineering

Allied Machine and Engineering is highlighting the T-A Pro high-penetration drilling system. With a diameter range of 0.3739"-1.8820" (9.50-47.80 mm), the T-A Pro is said to offer the consistency of a spade drill with the penetration rates of a high-performance drill.

The T-A Pro cutting tool solution is well suited for manufacturers to achieve extended tool life with high penetration rates, especially in situations where the balance of chip formation at high penetration rates is critical. The drill’s high-speed steel geometry insert not only provides good chip formation but also withstands interruptions. Pairing the drill with special guided T-A toolholders can aid in maintaining hole straightness throughout the cut. The carbide guides on the toolholder are an extension of the margins on the insert, providing straightness and stability.

Creating a 90-degree bend at the cross holes is often resolved by grinding custom forms into high-speed steel twist drills. However, with Allied Machine’s replaceable ball nose T-A insert, manufacturers have a secondary forming option for the bottom of holes to create a 90-degree bend at the intersection point. The company says these solutions enable a tool typically used for general-purpose鈥痬achining to now be a go-to tool for holemaking applications.

Fri, 9 May 2025 00:00:00 -0400 Heule Drills Maintain Precise Results at High Feed Rates Eastec 2025: DCC tooling is designed to drill and chamfer both sides of the workpiece in a single operation without turning the workpiece or changing tooling.
Source: Heule Precision Tools

’ DCC tooling is designed to drill and chamfer both sides of the workpiece in a single operation without turning the workpiece or changing tooling.

In addition to significantly reducing cycle times, solid carbide construction provides optimum concentricity and drilling performance. Well suited for holes from 4.0-10.0 mm (0.15-0.39"), this specialized technology consists of a solid carbide drill body with a SNAP chamfering system added, enabling the tool to create a bore and then chamfer both bore edges. Since the drill bit and tool body are manufactured in one piece, DCC can produce precise results at high cutting speeds/feed rates. Bore depths of up to 2.5 × D can be attained, with chamfers up to 0.8 mm. This specialized arrangement enables quick setup and reduced downtime due to easy handling. The tools features easily replaceable carbide chamfering blades with material specific coatings. Heule DCC with custom drill geometry is available for all materials including cast iron, stainless, titanium, aluminum and steel applications.

The drilling geometry and coating are adapted according to the workpiece material. If larger chamfers are required on the front edge of the bore, a stepped drill configuration can be integrated in to the tool. DCC is well suited for machining even and slightly uneven bore edges. The defined cutting process with ground carbide blade provides complete edge breakage — resulting in a burr-free front and back of the workpiece.

With its specialized one-piece solid carbide construction, DCC technology enables the bore to be drilled and chamfered without turning the workpiece or changing tooling, leading to a significant reduction in cycle time. This can eliminate manual machining and simplify tool management.
